Furthermore he won the first round of the presidential election, but narrowly lost the second round. Cultivating the power achieved and the resonance of his messages among a broad sector of public opinion, CD led the campaign for the “No” in the plebiscite that President Juan Manuel Santos called two years later for citizens to endorse the agreements of peace. After the “No” victory in the plebiscite, the government and the FARC had to renegotiate the Agreement on the basis of the proposals of the winning coalition.
