As always, your perspectives and contributions during the discourse ‘Building Up Safely; Government – Industry Collaborations’ are extremely invaluable. We are confident that the insightful recommendations of our panelists will help drive the change that we all desire in the sector. We have also taken note of some of the key learnings/recommendations to include:
Experienced engineers/professionals are required to build and manage high-rise buildings in the country.
There is a need to strengthen the building code. Efforts should be geared towards creating a one-stop shop for regulation and enforcements of guidelines and rules governing the construction industry in Nigeria.
Building permits are documents and the onus is on regulatory agencies to ensure building standards compliance.
Infrastructure is critical to achieving sustainable housing. Provision of key infrastructure through urban renewal and regeneration efforts will accelerate the building of high-rise buildings.
Sustainability should set a context for all design policies at all levels, so that the impact of construction on the environment can be better managed especially in the areas of construction waste.
An extensive planning and environmental policy framework to ensure that the impact of tall buildings is thoroughly assessed as part of the planning decision making process is required.
Efforts should be geared towards increased public-private sector collaboration in the provision of housing and other critical infrastructure.
Thank you once again. We look forward to inviting you to subsequent Concrete Ideas events towards the actualization of the outcomes of our engagements.
