Hello all, being following for a while on Nairaland.
Please I appreciate your help with attached and suggestions to improve, it is project will like to start this Q1.

A great design you have there. Everything is great but you can introduce a terrace in the private lounge to bring the outdoor inside.

brabus there is no way he will introduce the terrace for the private long that won’t affect the lounge “Reduce it” without removing the void and again, the private lounge isn’t working that way because of the arrangement of sitting directly facing the window

Sincerely, it’s a very great design well planned . Was just looking at the possibility of having a wall/partition that will lead to a lobby between the private lounge n study to serve as buffer should in case other occupants are utilizing the private lounge coupled with the terrace you stated earlier for the private lounge.

It’s a great concept n the elevation will also do great justice to the structure

That gets me thinking about the void. Many are not not a fan of the void concept and maybe this will close up the void. What do you think?

😮 I actually thought the lounge was third bedroom. That’s a large study if you ask me.

Your suggestion will do just fine - a partition acting as a buffer.

What do you think about the toilet inside the study? I’m considering when the family had a large number of people and there’s need to use a toilet on the upper floor.
A rearrangement of the toilet door position to serve both the study and the lounge might be required.

I can imagine the elevation of this great design already coupled with the interesting shapes the roof will bring out

I think the architect knew his onions.

Void is getting outdated and the odds are just too many. I had void designs on a couple of projects and I had so many regrets keeping them so.

raising the walls ain’t cheap
plastering ain’t cheap
you need large windows (almost useless apart from throwing in lights) in void sections
pop ceilings are difficult to clean when they’re dirty
don’t even think of installing pop spotlights on the ceiling. Changing them will cost you more than the bulb.
There’s need to buy extremely expensive drop lights or chandeliers 💡
cooling void sections ain’t cheap
the savings you realize is nothing compared to the amount spent during construction

You can block it off to create a third room, game room or theatre.

I now introduce a higher headroom on the ground floor to the first floor slab level instead of having void in my newer projects.

Anything from 3.3m would be fine.

brabus I wanted saying something bout the void too but I just assumed it’s from the clients brief to the architect and if thier architect can’t itemize the downside like you did here, the client will still prefer to have it that way.
You’ve said all about the void system and the space can be used for other functions too

brabus Wow! So voided spaces come with this much headache? From what you just mentioned, unless you have an AC big enough to cool both living room and private lounge, you won’t even feel the AC at all. I keep learning new things everyday.

Beautiful design!!! All opinions are well suggested and beautiful… In my little experience, I think client opinion is what leads to the design and if there is a well to eradicate it let the architect do because I don’t have any reason for the master bedroom alone to have access to the balcony which is the only one there and kindly tell the architect to utilize the void section!!

suzprinx off course the terrace can be introduced and it won’t affect the voided area as such. If the client still wants the void as it is , the architect should just add a cantilever to the front of the lounge window and access door to either side of the window but the side close to the void area is better so tv can be hanged conveniently to the other area.

And from the clients last reply, with brabus previous itemization of the demerits of the void. The client is ready to take off the void and so can have his family lounge on the supposed voided area and utilize the remaining space for other thing like box room/CCTV control room or more

I don’t want many rooms so I am thinking of introducing a mini kitchen and move the family lounge to the void space.

the roof design is very nice. I’ve already envisage what it’d look like when you send the building plan.

You’ll only need a very good carpenter to bring out the shape.

I love the wraparound terrace concept in the design. It’s cool and modern. But pls kindly ensure that a proper drainage is installed and the pergola also throw off water from the building.

I have ave a bitter experience on a similar design. The facade is super cool but anytime it rains, the terrace gets flooded due to slow discharge of water.

Now I’ve been looking at ways to creatively solve the problem without necessarily making any serious amendment to the facade.

This is is a seasonal issue though especially when there’s windy rainfall. A proper drain and weathertight paint or stonewall tiles in that area won’t be a bad idea.
